Wi-Fi 6 & Wi-Fi 6E Access Points? How To Choose?

What is Wi-Fi 6E and How Does It Work? | HPE Aruba Networking

Recently, we have found that some of our customers face a dilemma when choosing between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E access points.

  • WIFI-6E is more powerful but more expensive, do I need to buy it?
  • WIFI-6 obsolete? Will it cause inconvenience for me to use it?

Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E are the latest wireless networking technologies that offer significant improvements in speed, efficiency, and performance. The main difference lies in the frequency bands they use and the features they support:

Wi-Fi 6:

  1. Frequency Bands: Uses 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands.

  2. Speed and Efficiency: Wi-Fi 6 offers faster data transfer speeds compared to its predecessor Wi-Fi 5, and it supports connecting more devices simultaneously. It improves network efficiency through technologies like OFDMA and MU-MIMO.

  3. Energy Savings: Wi-Fi 6 supports Target Wake Time (TWT), which helps devices conserve battery life.

Wi-Fi 6E:

  1. Frequency Bands: In addition to supporting the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands like Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E also supports the 6GHz band, which provides more wireless spectrum and helps reduce network congestion.

  2. More Bandwidth: The 6GHz band offers more non-overlapping channels, which is an advantage in dense network environments.

  3. Higher Speed: Due to the wider bandwidth of the 6GHz band and less interference, Wi-Fi 6E can theoretically provide higher speeds.

Choosing Between Them:

  • If you want your devices to use the latest frequency bands, offer faster speeds, and provide higher performance, then Wi-Fi 6E is the better choice.

  • However, if you do not need the 6GHz band (for example, because it is not supported in your area), Wi-Fi 6 devices can still offer excellent performance and efficiency.

  • Consider the wireless environment around you and the device compatibility. If you have many devices to connect and require high speed and performance, Wi-Fi 6E may be more suitable.

What device classes support Wi-Fi 6E?

  • Standard Power (SP) AP
  • Low Power Indoor (LPI) AP
  • Very Low Power (VLP) AP

How do I choose a Wi-Fi 6E vendor?

  • A track record of proven innovation
  • Commitment to certification by industry standards (Wi-Fi Alliance)
  • A full portfolio to support indoor, outdoor, hazardous location (HazLoc), and remote workers
